Dear Residents,
Kent Police have received an increase in reports regarding thefts of motorbikes/scooters and anti-social behaviour on motorbikes/scooters over the last month in Dartford.
If you have CCTV, Doorbell footage or Dash Cam footage which captures anything suspicious please save this and report it online. If it is happening in front of you please ring 999/101.
Kent Police have arrested a number of individuals and recovered multiple stolen bikes but we recognise this is still an ongoing issue.
Whilst Kent Police work to identify the suspects, please view Kent Police’s crime prevention advice regarding vehicle crime here - Preventing car and vehicle theft and advice for protecting bikes here - Protect your motorcycle, moped or scooter from theft
The best way to protect your bike from crime is a layered approach. Track, Lock, Chain, Cover. Track - Fit a tracking device to your bike so you are alerted if your bike is taken and can locate where it has gone. There are many different tracking devices available online - some more discreet than others. Lock - Use a disc, grip or D lock (Or all three) to make it harder to move the bike easily. Chain - Use a chain lock through the back wheel as the front can be removed. Secure your bike, with the lock taut to an immovable object or thread the chain through the bike. Cover - By covering your bike it is not easy to see the make and model which criminals often look for when searching for vehicles. A cover also provides another time consuming obstacle for the thief.
Thank you |
